Ruth has been studying humpback whales since 1999 and has made some interesting discoveries on their surface and subsurface behaviour. She gained her PhD in February 2009 and founded the Humpback Whale Research Foundation. She is currently establishing several ongoing research projects in Maui, Hawaii and Silver Bank, West Indies.
